A rasp is a type of file. The file with the largest, rarest and sharpest cut, is used mainly for filing soft metals, wood, plastics, leather, bone, alabaster. When processing wooden surfaces, it serves for the initial, rough removal of irregularities. Rasps come in three profiles - flat, semicircular and round. The rasp teeth are large, in the form of triangles (almost like a coarse grater). That is why it is used for processing soft materials, since a large amount of chips generated during work passes through large holes and does not clog them as quickly as in the case of files that would have to be cleaned too often.
